Getting There:
There are two bridges onto the beachside. One is SR44, which is the easier route because it has no drawbridge. I recommend people come in this way. Once you cross the bridge, turn left onto Peninsula Drive, which will take you to Flagler Avenue. The Hampton Inn is the host hotel, and is located at 214 Flagler Avenue. The hotel has parking for guests.

Parking:
Parking can be a major issue in the area, but since it is during the week it shouldn't be a problem. Across the street from the hotel, (214 Flagler), there is a large public lot with free, unregulated parking. I recommend that people secure a spot there after dropping their gear. The entire area is walkable, so there isn't much reason to access your car again. Everything you need is nearby, including restaurants, shops, and the competition site. Parking along Flagler Avenue is also free, but limited to a few hours. The lot at the comp site is NOT free, and you'll need to buy a ticket if you wish to park there, ($20). Parking on the beach is the most convenient thing to do, but also the most expensive, ($25 and tide permitting). Most of the hotels do not charge for parking, and if you're staying near Flagler Avenue, the entire area is walkable.

Comp Site:
The competition is located on the beach, just south of the Flagler Avenue beach ramp, and in front of the Flagler Avenue Boardwalk. There is a large parking lot, but as mentioned, it is not free. There are restrooms and showers located on-site. The VCBS lifeguard station is also located there. Is has some facilities, including showers, control tower, and limited storage. Most items can be left on the beach. The area is low-crime and usually safe. We currently plan for some overnight security. There will be an elevated stage with PA system located on the beach in front of the boardwalk. The course director is Scott Petersohn, and VSLA and county staff will be available. We are working on a lifeguard truck to help being boats onto the beach to avoid people paying the fee. The water temperature is usually around 80 F, and the surf has been flat to 1-3 ft. Occasionally, we get large surf but it has been small lately. Vendors may locate on the beach or the boardwalk, and competition tents may locate on the beach. This is a driving beach, so please do not obstruct the vehicle lanes. There is no alcohol, glass, or single-use plastic or styrofoam allowed. Tents and personal items must be removed every night. If lightning occurs, the beach will be closed until it passes

Flagler Avenue & Hotels:

Flagler Avenue is the historic downtown section of the NSB beachside. There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants. The host hotel is located at 214 Flagler, and is about a 5-10 minute walk to the comp site. There is a hotel located onsite, The Marriott Spring Hill Suites https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/dabsh-springhill-suites-new-smyrna-beach/ still has rooms available for less than $200. The Best Western is located a 1/2 mile away,https://www.google.com/search?q=new+smyrna+best+western&oq=new+smyrna+best+western&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.6392j1j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 they have rooms for $136. Hampton Inn can be found here: https://secure3.hilton.com/en_US/hp/reservation/book.htm?execution=e1s1 - they had special rates for VSLA which still may be available. Other options include the Buena Vista Inn, Inn on the Avenue, and the Black Dolphin Inn. Also, the Salty Mermaid is very small, but located directly at the competition site.

Awards

The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Ocean Breeze Tiki Bar. It is located on the rooftop directly across the street from the competition site, located at 521 Flagler Avenue. There will be free beverages, free food, and drink specials. Party starts Thursday at 7 pm!
