California Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez has authored legislation to add ocean lifeguards to the categories of public safety officers eligible to receive the California Medal of Valor. This legislation has passed the California Assembly and now moves to the California Senate. It will require concurrence of the Senate and the signature of the Governor to become law.

The support of all public safety organizations is vital to ensuring that this law is enacted. Even if your organization has previously written a letter in support, a new letter is needed that should be directed to the Senate.
