The United States Lifesaving Association is America's Full Member of the International Life Saving Federation – the worldwide body of lifeguards. The USLA falls within the Americas Region of the ILS, which encompasses the Western Hemisphere, including North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean. Through the ILS, USLA helps to support the development lifesaving throughout the Americas and around the world. The USLA National Team competes at the ILS World Lifesaving Championships every two years. Several USLA officials are also officials with the ILS, including
